You don't need to wait on a New Year to arrive, a new relationship to begin, a new job to start, or any environmental changes to work on yourself. Change can be scary, uncertain, and you may want to say later while you forget that the best time to make those changes is now.
Let's first discuss why people tend to work on themselves when they are in a new phase of life or placed in a new atmosphere. When we were young, we waited on a new school year to start, new friendships to emerge, and new or life-changing events. We would jot down ideas and new goals to decide what could make us stand out. Questions started to surface such as How could I be better? The truth is you don't need something new to happen for you to change. If you have the force and intention within you then you can make improvements, and therefore you should make the change now. Stop saying later. Many people of the older generation wish they didn't wait for a day of the week to start, but rather listen to the inner voice within them.
"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."
- Barack Obama
Making the change in your life may not always be easy. Many of us are afraid. We are afraid of the outcome, afraid of the path that has not been discovered, and afraid of what the unknown carries. But ask yourself a question. Ask yourself, where am I going? I want you to close your eyes and ask where am I going? Where is my destination, where do I leave my landmarks, where is my final destination. You may find that you are headed in the opposite direction, a U-turn is all you need, or you may find you need to hit the gas. Either way, you need to make the change. It all starts with you. There is no better or safer time to change your life than now, this very moment.
Creating the blueprint
You will create many blueprints until you find the one. It’s the one that works for you. You can't follow someone else's because that formulation only works for them.
Start by finding a space you feel the most comfortable. Embrace and make this space yours. It could be your desk, your car, your bedroom, your sofa—any place where you feel that you can relax but still be focused. Close your eyes, with your palms facing up, and think about where you have come from. You can go as far back as when you were a child. How you were raised, and what got you to the place that you are in today. Keep your eyes closed for 5 min or more if needed. Next, you want to get a pencil and paper and jot down how you felt. Did the thoughts make you angry, energetic, happy, jot all the feelings and thoughts down.
Next, I want you to do this again for where you are now. How do you feel? How did you get here? Was it through your hard work? What decisions did you make? How is your current state: stagnant, steady, or fast? Lastly, I want you to do this for the third and final time. Ask the hard question. Where do you see yourself? Are you where you want to be to get to where you want to go. Do not hold back; be as honest as you can. Don't think because this life event happened, that's why I'm here, but if I do this tomorrow, then I'll be at the place where I want to be. Don't think like that, think positive and uplifting thoughts, think thoughts that motivate you. Create a blueprint on a separate sheet of paper, and I want you to keep it somewhere where you can see it every day. Your blueprint is your timeline that you hold yourself accountable to. Change your life today and get the better you've been yearning for set out you've got good luck by your side.
