Let's talk about goal setting.
We all create goals. We all want to achieve something in life. Be someone or leave something meaningful behind. We all have different goals: long term, short term, monthly goals, daily goals, and yearly goals. It doesn’t matter what your goals are. We measure success by achievement/completion of our goals.
Once we have a vision of where we would like to be we write down what we aim for. We write it down on our vision boards, on a sheet of paper or keep it in the back of our minds. After creating these goals, the next logical step would be to achieve our goals. This task is, however, not as easy as it sounds, which is why, in this article, I will discuss how you can achieve your goals.
I want to first discuss why you don't achieve as many goals as you would like to. This could be for many reasons. It could be because you are a procrastinator. It could be because you are an overachiever.
The first step of this process is to do an evaluation. I want you to do an honest evaluation of yourself before you read my article any further. I want you to close your eyes, and really self think about where you are in your life. What are your obstacles, what are your achievements, what are your goals, and where would you like to be? These questions are questions that you may have answered, or they may be questions where you have not answered. This practice is different because I want you to meditate and find your answers.
Once you have found your answers, I want you to open your eyes and talk to yourself. Yes, I want you to talk out loud. Talk to yourself and really write out any free thoughts. Once you are done, read those thoughts that you wrote out loud. Think about what you read. Now you are ready to create your goals.
You have now entered a judge free zone
When it comes to placing goals, you want to be as honest with yourself as much as possible. Don't create goals to be done in a day when realistically, it may take a year to complete or don't create easy goals that you know can take minutes, and you're placing them as a day's worth of task to complete. Be honest with your goals. No one is looking at your checklist, but you. Know that you are your boss, and you can achieve your goals.
You will now be moving into doing what you listed. If you feel that you are unable to complete a goal because you have a certain obstacle such as not enough time or waiting on a coworker, that's okay. Understand that you are on a journey, and you do not have control of all things. Instead of not putting a check next to the task or not crossing it off the list, I want you to put a circle or write 1/2. Automatically that will make you feel so much better as you know that you have done all in your power to complete a task.
Be a better person than you were yesterday.
Each day, I want you to self reflect. You should be a better person than you were yesterday, so every day, you should ask yourself, what can you achieve today, what could have gone better, and what am I proud and grateful for? Start answering this out loud and implement those changes that you didn't like and reward yourself for your achievements. It doesn't have to be a vacation each time, and it could simply be eating a slice of pizza at your favorite pizza place or watching a new movie. Remember to be honest with yourself.
I hope you can take away positive steps in this article to learn and grow into the best version of yourself. Know that I am here cheering you on and good luck!
